Sarah Jo Kirsch

Sarah Jo Kirsch (they/them) is a highly versatile vocalist/soundmaker based in Vancouver.
A practiced soloist and choralist of old and new musics of the Western European classical tradition, SJ has performed song, oratorio, and opera across Turtle Island and beyond. SJ frequently collaborates with composers in the creation/realization of new works, composes their own sound/text works, and is active in the local sound/noise improvisation community. As an educator, SJ offers their insight on music/sound/voice in lectures, workshops, and panel discussions for various arts organizations and academic institutions.
Adaptable to any style, SJ’s pedagogical priorities are rooted in the understanding of singing as a primally intuitive function: in connecting with the body as an instrument, in accessing intuitive functional efficiency and flexibility, and in working towards an organic evolution of the individual’s unique vocal spectrum.
SJ welcomes folks of all identities, presentations, and abilities seeking technical assistance speaking, singing, or exploring extended techniques. Specializing in project-focused work, they also offer coaching in repertoire interpretation, audition/performance preparation, recording and tour preparation, and soundmaking/songwriting.
