Julia Rooney

Julia Rooney (B.Mus, M.Mus, UBC), is an active musician and teacher who welcomes every opportunity to share her joy of music with her students in a fun and supportive learning environment.

Julia loves helping students of all ages and abilities to achieve their singing goals. Her voice students have succeeded in RCM exams, auditions, talent shows, and roles in musicals, operas, and film & television. In 2019, with support from a grant through the Vancouver Opera Chorus Endowment, Julia successfully completed the Orff Music Level 1 Teacher Training through BC Orff at Vancouver Community College. This course propelled Julia’s interest in teaching early childhood music education.

In addition to her private studio, Julia’s teaching opportunities have included Faculty at UBC Summer Vocal Workshop, Youth Vocal Coach for Netflix’s The Healing Powers of Dude, Extra-Curricular Music Instructor at Capilano Elementary School, Group Singing Instructor for Lights Up Musical Theatre Camps. In February 2022, Julia began teaching preschool music classes with Music Band Wagon, a music outreach program with the Vancouver Academy of Music.

Julia is currently a member of the Vancouver Opera Chorus, and has performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, North Shore Light Opera, Heroic Opera, Opera Mariposa, Bard on the Beach: Opera & Arias, Applause Musicals, UBC Opera, UBC Symphony Orchestra, Fear No Opera (Victoria), Westben Arts Festival Theatre (Ontario), and the North Czech Philharmonic, as well as on tour across BC with Vancouver Opera in Schools during the 2013-2014 season.
