Born in Hong Kong, Adrian began learning the violin at the age of four under Ma Wai Kwan. He later joined the Young Musician Program at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, studying with Le Hoai Nam, principal second violin of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. At fifteen, he moved to Vancouver and continued his studies with David Gillham at the University of British Columbia.
Adrian has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Junior Symphony of the HKAPA, the Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, and the Lord Byng Symphony Orchestra, serving as concertmaster in several of them. He has also received awards and scholarships through competitions in both Hong Kong and Vancouver.
He further developed his artistry at summer festivals such as the Meadowmount School of Music and Domaine Forget, and has worked with artists including Rachel Barton Pine and Nikki Chooi. A passionate educator and performer, Adrian completed a dual degree in Violin Performance and Secondary Education at UBC in 2023 and recently earned his Master’s in Violin Performance from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music.
His teachers have included David Stewart, Catherine Cosbey, Axel Strauss, and David Gillham. At McGill, he also studied viola with Marina Thibeault and performed viola in chamber ensembles.
Adrian believes in music’s power to connect people and reveal the emotional core of each piece. His goal is to help audiences experience the depth and beauty of music, just as the composer intended.
