Amati Players

Amati Players is an intermediate-level string ensemble that nurtures young musicians with a focus on collaboration and artistic development. Under the guidance of Joseph Elworthy, President & CEO of the Vancouver Academy of Music and Professor & Division Chair of Cello, the ensemble performs two distinct programs each year, featuring commissioned premieres, two soloists from within the ensemble, and guest artists. Emphasizing collaboration and artistic excellence, the group offers a unique and dynamic performance experience, with every musician actively contributing to the collective sound and interpretation.

What’s New This Season

For 2026/27, Amati Players have been thoughtfully enhanced to support deeper musical development

  • Extended Rehearsal Time – More time each week to refine technique, ensemble precision, and musical interpretation
  • Full-Year Rehearsal Schedule – Consistent, uninterrupted progress throughout the season, leading to stronger ensemble cohesion*
  • Guest Artist Collaborations: Work closely with acclaimed artists including Mark Fewer and Eliseu Silva
  • International Tour Opportunities: Potential participation in upcoming cultural exchange tours (details to be announced)

*Amati Players rehearses throughout the academic year, with breaks for holidays and statutory closures.

Application – Online audition information

Auditions are required for new students. Current 25/26 Season Amati Players members are waived from the audition.

Audition Requirement

Audition Application Fee (non-refundable)

  • Early Bird Deadline: June 30, 2026, 11:59 PM – $45
  • Regular Application: After June 30, 2026, 11:59 PM – $60
  • Early audition application is encouraged to ensure timely audition review and to secure your spot before our first rehearsal in September. After August 31, we cannot guarantee ensemble placement, even if the audition has been completed.

Interested in joining both the Amati Players Program and the Orchestral Program?

To make the process more accessible, students may use the same audition video for both applications. The second audition process and application fee will be waived for applicants applying to both programs.
