Stella Chen

Stella Chen graduated from China Conservatory of Music in Beijing and during her studies, Ms. Chen had been the recipient of numerous awards in China, and had appeared regularly on television. After leaving China in 2006, Ms. Chen continued her studies in Canada and Europe. In 2007, she was awarded a full scholarship from the Vancouver Academy of Music where she received her Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance, studying with renowned voice professor Mr. David Meek.

During her studies at Vancouver Academy of Music, Ms. Chen took on roles as Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Musetta in La Boheme, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Hanna in The Merry Widow, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi and Norina in Don Pasquale in opera scenes performances and summer opera productions. Later she studied with Norwegian mezzo-soprano Randi Stene and performed in concerts in Norway with renowned British pianist Gordon Back.

Ms. Chen made her Canadian debut as a soloist in a Musical Journey concert at the Koerner Recital Hall which featured the music of China. She has given solo recitals sponsored by the Chopin Society of Vancouver, and she has been in concerts along with great musicians held by the Maple Ridge Music Society for the past 10 years. Her European performances include the Valdres Music Festival, Norway, where she was also a faculty member. Starting 2010, Ms. Chen has appeared as a recitalist and has given masterclasses as a regular visiting professor at the Henan Polytechnic University, School of Music, and at the Henan University, in China.

Ms. Chen has been teaching intensively and passionately, and many of her students have taken prizes in music festivals, competitions, have passed RCM voice exams up to ARCT level with high scores, accepted into universities in voice major, and have gone onto musical journeys professionally. Besides her busy teaching schedules, Ms. Chen also performs as soloist in various concerts and recitals, collaborating with international and Vanvouver based pianists, trios, quartets and chamber orchestras.
