David Drucker was born in West Virginia and grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, where he studied piano and composition for several years at the Peabody Conservatory Preparatory School. He was a student for several years at the Walden School for Young Composers, and later on the faculty and Board of Directors of that program. He received a Bachelor of Music at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Joel Hoffman, and then studied with the late Alexander Goehr at Cambridge University, where he obtained that school’s first MPhil in Composition. He also attended the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood as a fellowship student. After moving to Canada in 2005, he worked in the Tech industry both as a consultant to various startups, and then as an employee at IBM, and taught User Experience Design at BCIT, Emily Carr University, and Langara College. He also wrote 2 books on computer technology, which were published by Hayden Press. He is currently a Doctoral Student at UBC, studying with Jennifer Butler, Dorothy Chang, and Keith Hamel. He has written piano, choral, and chamber music, including Sonatas for English Horn and Viola, 2 song cycles, and several orchestral works. Recently, he’s written Martellare for 2 Pianos and Percussion and Auxesis for mixed chamber ensemble and electronics. His “Five Bagatelles for Flute and Piano” was published by Zalo Press, and his Elegy for Cello and Piano was recorded while he was still a student in Cincinnati.
