Adrian Kwan

Born in Hong Kong, Adrian began studying the violin at the age of four with Ma Wai Kwan before joining the Young Musician Program at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he trained under Le Hoai Nam, principal second violin of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. After moving to Vancouver at the age of fifteen, he continued his musical education with David Gillham and Ji Eun Jenny Lim at the Vancouver Academy of Music.

Adrian has performed with numerous ensembles, including the Junior Symphony of the HKAPA, the Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, the UBC Symphony Orchestra, and the McGill Symphony Orchestra, serving as concertmaster for several of them. His performances have taken him to notable venues internationally, including the Musikverein in Vienna, and Maison Symphonique in Montreal. He has also collaborated with professional organizations such as the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, the National Academy Orchestra at the Brott Music Festival, and Symphony 21. His work has been recognized through various awards and scholarships in both Hong Kong and Vancouver.

Committed to continuous artistic growth, Adrian has attended summer programs such as the Meadowmount School of Music and Domaine Forget, where he worked with internationally respected artists including Rachel Barton Pine and Nikki Chooi. He holds a dual degree in Violin Performance and Secondary Education from UBC, completed in 2023, as well as a Master’s degree in Violin Performance from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music. His principal teachers have included David Stewart, Catherine Cosbey, Axel Strauss, and David Gillham. At McGill, he also studied viola with Marina Thibeault and performed regularly in chamber ensembles as a violist.

As an educator, Adrian is dedicated to fostering strong technical foundations, musical confidence, and a genuine appreciation for the arts. He believes that music is a powerful means of personal growth and connection, and he strives to help each student discover their unique musical voice while developing discipline, curiosity, and joy in their playing.
