Rebecca Ruthven

Originally from Kelowna, Rebecca completed Bachelor’s degrees in Violin Performance and Biochemistry at McGill University. She is Principal Second Violin of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and plays regularly with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra. An active chamber musician, she has played with Vetta Chamber Music, the Borealis String Quartet, and toured BC as part of The Young Beethoven. On baroque violin, she has performed with Gallo Chamber Players, Pacific Baroque Orchestra, and Victoria Baroque.

Rebecca attended workshops at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Tafelmusik Summer and Winter Baroque Institutes, Tuckamore Chamber Music Festival and Madeline Island Chamber Music. A three-time alumnus of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, she was the youngest Canadian musician in the Canada India Youth Orchestra project in Bangalore and is a recipient of the Stephen Sitarski Leadership Award. She studied baroque violin as part of Early Music Vancouver’s Scholarship Programme and UBC’s Baroque Orchestra Mentorship Program.

Her principal teachers include Nancy DiNovo, Mark Fewer, Felicia Moye, Ken Stromberg, and Heilwig von Koenigsloew on violin, and Chloe Meyers on baroque violin.
