Sylvia Yee

Sylvia Yee has taught hundreds of children and adult beginner students for over 20 years in the UK, France, India, and Canada. She believes in nurturing a spirit of musical exploration and is dedicated to helping her students find their unique tone and narrative. Combining interactive teaching, exercises to strengthen technique, and a strong foundational understanding of theory, students will develop a capacity for concentration and self-reliance, learn to delve deeper into the music as well as achieve outstanding performance results.

Sylvia holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London. She completed her Bachelor of Music with distinction at the University of Victoria, where she was a recipient of numerous musical awards and scholarships. She has played in masterclass for Anton Kuerti, Kevin Fitz-Gerald, Ian Fountain, Bruce Vogt, and Ava Solar-Kinderman and received chamber coaching from the Lafayette Quartet, Nicola Eimer, and Erich Gruenberg.  Her musical mentors, to whom she owes a debt of gratitude to are: Hamish Milne, May-Ling Kwok, Ian Parker, Edward Parker, and Kenneth Broadway.

During her career in the UK, she has performed as an artist for Steinway and Sons and played in solo and chamber recitals across London. She takes an interest in discovering new talents and is active as an adjudicator.

Outside of the teaching studio, Sylvia enjoys hiking in Howe Sound and skiing on the North Shore mountains with her family.
