Flute Fest

Class Description: Join us for a day of flute celebration, headlined by Dr. Elizabeth Buck from Arizona State University! Experience a captivating recital and insightful masterclass. Participate in a vibrant flute choir reading with Thomas Law (VAM faculty and director of Cap flute choir) , and delve into the psychology of peak performance with Diane Rizzardo (Metrotown Sports Physio) and Robyn Klassen (VAM head of Voice). Plus, explore a comprehensive flute exhibition with Burkart Flutes and Kim Juren Flute Repair. From 9:30 AM to 6 PM, immerse yourself in all things flute on April 13th at the Vancouver Academy of Music!

9:15 am - Welcome!!! Warm up class with Ethan Lin - Burkart Representative 10:00 am - Flute Choir Reading  Led by the director of Capilano Flute Choir and VAM faculty, Thomas Law, have a blast playing exciting flute ensemble repertoire. Bring your instruments! 11:00 am - Unleash Your Inner Champion: Performance Psychology VS. Sports Psychology Led by Diane Rizzzardo (Metrotown sports physio) and Robyn Klassen (VAM, Head of Voice Department) Ever wondered what separates a good performance from a peak performance? Musician or a non musician, the mental game is key! Find out what connection or similarity there is to help you unlock your full potential. 12:00 pm - Flute Workshop with Dr. Elizabeth Buck 1:00 pm - Lunch Break 2:00 pm - Flute Recital: Featuring Dr. Elizabeth Buck with students and faculty of VAM A concert you will not want to miss! 3:30-5:30 pm (4:30-4:50 pm break) - Flute Masterclass with Dr. Elizabeth Buck Observe our open class with the featured guest artist, Dr. Elizabeth Buck from the Arizona States University, leading a masterclass featuring some of the most challenging flute repertories performed by VAM’s most excellent.

Masterclass Session with the Kallaci Trio

Class Description: Masterclass Series: A Co-Presentation with Vancouver Chamber Music Society Masterclass Schedule: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, March 22, Three simultaneous masterclasses (Violin – Koerner Recital Hall | Viola – Yeung Ensemble Room | Cello - Mary Olson Hall) Open to Public | Free to Audit  The Kallaci Trio sees three exceptional string players join forces to deliver awe-inspiring artistic performances. The trio features the talents of YooJin Jang (violin), Hanna Lee (viola), and Joon Ho Shim (cello). Each member has amassed international praise for their expertise in their respective instruments, with Jang, Lee, and Shim each performing at some of the most prestigious concert halls around the world. Cellist Ariel Barnes and harpist Heidi Krutzen come together as the Couloir Duo to combine their passion and dedication to 21st Century Art Music.  Both Barnes and Krutzen have gained critical acclaim across the globe as soloists, chamber musicians, and orchestral leaders. As the Couloir Duo, they unite their expertise and talents to bring nuanced layers to the art of storytelling in music. Get ready for a mesmerizing evening as the pair deliver simultaneous Cello and Harp Masterclasses on February 7.
