Flute Fest

Class Description: Join us for a day of flute celebration, headlined by Dr. Elizabeth Buck from Arizona State University! Experience a captivating recital and insightful masterclass. Participate in a vibrant flute choir reading with Thomas Law (VAM faculty and director of Cap flute choir) , and delve into the psychology of peak performance with Diane Rizzardo (Metrotown Sports Physio) and Robyn Klassen (VAM head of Voice). Plus, explore a comprehensive flute exhibition with Burkart Flutes and Kim Juren Flute Repair. From 9:30 AM to 6 PM, immerse yourself in all things flute on April 13th at the Vancouver Academy of Music!

9:15 am - Welcome!!! Warm up class with Ethan Lin - Burkart Representative 10:00 am - Flute Choir Reading  Led by the director of Capilano Flute Choir and VAM faculty, Thomas Law, have a blast playing exciting flute ensemble repertoire. Bring your instruments! 11:00 am - Unleash Your Inner Champion: Performance Psychology VS. Sports Psychology Led by Diane Rizzzardo (Metrotown sports physio) and Robyn Klassen (VAM, Head of Voice Department) Ever wondered what separates a good performance from a peak performance? Musician or a non musician, the mental game is key! Find out what connection or similarity there is to help you unlock your full potential. 12:00 pm - Flute Workshop with Dr. Elizabeth Buck 1:00 pm - Lunch Break 2:00 pm - Flute Recital: Featuring Dr. Elizabeth Buck with students and faculty of VAM A concert you will not want to miss! 3:30-5:30 pm (4:30-4:50 pm break) - Flute Masterclass with Dr. Elizabeth Buck Observe our open class with the featured guest artist, Dr. Elizabeth Buck from the Arizona States University, leading a masterclass featuring some of the most challenging flute repertories performed by VAM’s most excellent.
ALL DAY FLUTE EXHIBITION (Open 10 am to 6 pm; Close 2 pm to 3 pm) Burkart Flutes and Kim Juren Flute Repair/Flute Shop Dive into the world of flute! Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting your musical journey, our exhibition has something for everyone. Explore a stunning array of flutes, from beginner models to exquisite gold and silver instruments, plus piccolos, altos, and basses. Find every accessory imaginable, and discover the perfect flute for your sound!!!

Class Description: Free admission: VAM's Spring Carnival & Open House is the perfect opportunity for both prospective and existing students to celebrate the VAM community.  Open-door classes allow the exploration of the various programs VAM has to offer and student concerts throughout the day showcase the wide variety of achievements over the past academic year. When you are not learning, take some time to enjoy face painting, balloons, popcorn, food, and more!

Piano Masterclass with Joyce Yang

Class Description: koerner Recital Hall Co-presented with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Pianist Joyce Yang captivates audiences across the globe with her virtuosity, lyricism, and magnetic stage presence. Ms. Yang came to international attention in 2005 when she won the silver medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Since this debut, she has blossomed into an astonishing artist and continues to appear with orchestras around the world.
