The Koerner Piano Trio presents three works sure to capture your attention from the very start. The opening chord of Haydn’s Piano Trio No. 45 in Eb Major will draw you in and keep you delighted by the simple, tuneful melodies and soul-searching modulations. Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor, written upon the loss of his closest friend, takes you on a journey that juxtaposes intense emotions, as if the trio is mourning and remembering together. Although revised and finalized in his fifties, Brahms’ Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major retains the masterful scoring to highlight and heighten the passions his younger self felt when composing this work.
