In this unprecedented time of physical distancing, music is a gift that can uplift and rejuvenate our spirits, and offers that opportunity to engage and learn. VAM’s online learning is designed to open new channels of innovation and enrichment, fostering a love of music that knows no bounds.

Online Learning

Bach Babies (Online)

Instructor: Chloé Hurst (Department Head)
Recommended for: Ages 3-18 months
Class Time: Session 1: The Week of September 7th - October 26th; Session 2: The Week of November 2nd - December 23rd; Session 3: The Week of January 4th - February 22nd;
Semester Fee:
  • $125
Class Description: Join your child in their first explorations of the musical world! Sing interactive songs with the help of an animal friend, learn to play an instrument, and use dance to feel the music in your body in this introduction to the benefits music has to offer you and your child.
  • This is an online course available as a set of 8 pre-recorded videos per session.
  • There are 4 sessions at $125 each, per Academic Year.
  • Video content released weekly, may be viewed at the convenience of caregiver and child.

Mozart Mites (Online)

Instructor: Chloé Hurst (Department Head)
Recommended for: Ages 18 months - 3 years
Class Time: Session 1: The Week of September 7th - October 26th; Session 2: The Week of November 2nd - December 23rd; Session 3: The Week of January 4th - February 22nd; Session 4: The Week of March 1st - May 3rd
Semester Fee:
  • $125
Class Description: Watch your child develop coordination, confidence in solo performance, and the ability to work with others through singing, playing, and movement.
  • This is an online course available as a set of 8 pre-recorded videos per session.
  • There are 4 sessions at $125 each, per Academic Year.
  • Video content released weekly, may be viewed at the convenience of caregiver and child.

Rossini Rascals (Online)

Instructor: Chloe Hurst (Department Head)
Recommended for: Ages 3-4
Class Time: Tuesdays, 11:00-11:45am Fridays, 4:00-4:45pm Saturdays, 1:15-2:00pm Saturdays, 12:15-1:00pm (2nd Semester Only)
Semester Fee:

Class Description: In this online class, dive into musicianship skills with elements of the Orff and Kodaly methods with the exploration of several different percussive instruments. This is an online course offered by live video conferencing

Navigators (Online)

Instructor: Chloé Hurst (Department Head); Julia Bonnett
Recommended for: Ages 7-8
Class Time: Wednesdays, 5:00-5:45pm Saturdays, 11:15am-12:00pm
Semester Fee:

Class Description: VAM Navigators will explore everything in the world of music from composers around the globe to the fine detail of the notes, rhythms and instruments that make up our musical landscape. Take out those telescopes and find the many notes that live on the musical staff!  Steer through rhythms using a wide variety of percussion instruments and leap from note to note while singing melodies.   Don't forget to study the maps of explorers before you! Discover the lives of composers who wrote the many pieces of music that we know and love.  Voyagers and Navigators will be able to use expert navigation skills to guide others through inviting other VAM students and staff as special guests and leading them through the journey of how musical instruments work and sound. This is an online course offered through live video conferencing.

Voyagers (Online)

Adult Theory & Ear Training (Online)

Instructor: Daniel Marshall, Taka Shimojima
Recommended for: Adults with little to no experience reading music
Class Time: Arranged at the mutual convenience of student and teacher (13 total classes per semester)

Class Description: Designed for adults who are interested in developing a strong foundation of musicianship, Adult Theory & Ear Training introduces students to the fundamental skills of music theory, ear training, and appreciation.   This program consists of 7 online theory classes and 6 online ear training lessons. This is an online course offered through live video conferencing. The next program intake is schedule for February, 2021. 

RCM Music Theory (Online)

Class Time: to be scheduled at the mutual convenience of teacher and students
Class Description: VAM's private, semi-private, and small group classes in RCM Theory provide an excellent means of enhancing essential musicianship skills that greatly spur progress for instrumental training. VAM shares a close institutional relationship with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) that includes our official designation as Vancouver West exam centre. Brain Boosters: Math Wizards (Online)

Instructor: Lisa Amini
Recommended for: Ages 8-13
Class Description: Math Wizards utilizes self-motivational tools and materials that will strengthen comprehension of math and logic. Weekly assigned work and follow-up corrections ensure a strong foundation for future learning progress. Math Wizards instills an enjoyment of learning math based on a personalized system of learning that motivates children to independently develop analytical skills. This is an online subject, offered through live videoconferencing. Young Reading & Writing Circle (Online)

Instructor: Lisa Amini
Recommended for: Kindergarten - Grade 2
Class Time: to be scheduled at the mutual convenience of teacher and students
Class Description: The world of literature is waiting to be discovered by your child in this program that will introduce grammar, reading comprehension and writing.  In addition to fiction reading and writing, students will explore the biographies of different composers and music history to aid in the preparation of RCM music theory and history examinations.
