Head Start Band Intro
Recommended for: For students aged 8-12 wanting a head-start on learning their instrument of choice before starting band in schoolClass Time: Session 1: July 8-12, 9:00am-3:00pm Session 2: July 29-Aug 2, 9:00am-3:00pm
Semester Fee:

In this program, students aged 8-12 will attend group classes on their instrument of choice (Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, and Trombone) in the morning, learning the foundational skills of proper posture when holding the instrument, how to take care of the instrument, how to create a sound on the instrument, basic fingerings/slide positions, foundational ensemble skills.
In the afternoon, students will join in VAM's Summer Popcorn Orchestra for Harry Potter themed activities and orchestra rehearsals (with music tailored to their skill level).
At the end of the week, students will join in VAM's Summer Popcorn Orchestra for a performance, celebrating a week's worth of hard work and progress.
Should they wish, students also have the opportunity to register for private lessons through VAM.
The goal of the program is to equip students with the foundational skills to succeed in band at school: proper instrument care, playing the instrument with correct posture (facilitates better sound production and reduces risk of injury), and learning to work with other musicians in an ensemble setting while enjoying the music-making process.
