Who is eligible: VAM viola students

Note: The competition, originally scheduled for May 9, will take place on May 10, 2019

The Vancouver Academy of Music Alto Clef Festival is designed to identify talented viola students and afford them recognition and financial assistance. One adjudicator external to VAM will evaluate contestants with $1,000 in total scholarships awarded for 2019/20 VAM tuition.

Eligible students are those registered in private lessons with a viola teacher at Vancouver Academy of Music since the beginning of the academic year.

Application Deadline: April 9, 2019, 11:59pm
Competition: May 10, 2019
Students will receive notice of their specific time slot following the application deadline.
Festival Concert: May 23, 2019, 7:30pm at VAM’s Koerner Recital Hall

Competition Rules
1. Applications are subject to a fee of $20 made payable to the Vancouver Academy of Music.
2. Applicants must prepare one work with a maximum duration of 10 minutes, performed by memory.
3. Students must provide their own accompanist.
4. A copy of the music must be provided for the adjudicator (photocopies permitted).
5. The competition phase will be closed to the public with the exception of the parents/guardians and teacher of the student performing; no video or audio recording permitted. The public is welcome to attend the Festival Concert.
6.  The chosen winners will receive scholarships toward 2019/20 VAM tuition; because of time restraints, not all winners will be able to perform solo repertoire in the Festival Concert.
