From buoyant liveliness to a yearning strewn with hope, Koerner Piano Trio turns to introspection this winter through evoking a full range of emotional expression. The playfulness of Haydn’s “Gypsy” trio, culminating in the vivacious folk-inspired finale that earned its namesake, is met with the gripping melodies of Jean Coulthard’s plaintive Lyric Trio. Concluding the concert is Dvorak’s “Dumky” trio which, inspired by solemn folk ballads, sheds hopeful light into an atmosphere sodden with melancholy.
