Advanced chromatic harmony and modulation to remote keys. Contrapuntal two-part writing covered in Counterpoint is extended to create compositions in the Baroque style.
Building on the basic analytical skills developed in Rudiments and Harmony, students will explore art song, small and large instrumental forms, the fugal style of J. S. Bach, and important 20th-century compositional techniques.
Students will investigate the music of the 19th and 20th centuries including Canadian music. Topics include popular music and jazz in addition to traditional Western music.
